Learning to love Hong Kong
Because noises from the street
Are the trusty alarm that
Never fails to call me to work.
Because the neon lights
Pity my monotony by
Thrusting themselves into my eyes.
Because the smoke from cars
Is so sufficient that
I never crave cigarettes.
Because air pollution
Is the perfect excuse
For the tears swelling up my eyes.
Because the tiny apartment
Embraces me so tightly to ensure
I won’t have room to feel lonely.
